LAUDEMONT MINISTRIES

A Sensible Approach to Christian Truth

POETRY BY SHIRLEY ANNE LEONARD

The Body of Christ

Originally published online by Reconciliation Press

Jesus risen from the dead,
seated at the Father’s hand,
sees His Body walk the earth
cell by cell in reborn man.

One night I dreamed He said, “I hurt”
but I did not understand
the King of Kings and Lord of Lords
with heaven’s power at His command.

But when I thought about His church
bruised, divided, land on land,
war-torn by war upon itself,
I wept to see this Broken Man.

I asked, “My Lord, what can I do?
My heart within me breaks for grief
to see the pain this brings to You
much deeper than the pain in me.

“For in my lifetime, I have seen
my family torn apart by creeds,
the oneness sectioned, part by part
while love pled silent on her knees.”

Father, if we could only see
the deep affliction of Your soul
when children fight among themselves
and You would have Your family whole.
